Question: 4. I think that if Thorin Oakenshield would have lived he would have most likely would have regretted his greed. I think that he would ahve done this because he probably would have realized how important life is to him. I think that we should all focus not on the material things, but on the people that we love and other more happy things in the world.
On page 312 Thorin says, "I go now to the halls of waiting to sit beside my fathers, until the world is renewed. Since I leave now all gold and silver, and go where it is of little worth, I to part in friendship from you, and I would take back my words and deeds at the Gate." ... "This is a bitter adventure and if it must end so; and not a mountain of gold can amend it. Yet I am glad that i have shared in your perils" ... "There is more in your good than you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. But sad or merry, I must leave it now. Farewell!" I think that if he didn't care about the gold and silver then he could possibly be alive because he would have never been defending it. Nobody should value material things more than our loved ones. ~ Good response. In the future, this was a really long quote, and you did not need that much. The first two sentences were probably most important. ~ Mrs. Best
3. Something that happened in my life to help me grow in a positive way is when my brother got sick and was in the hospital. This affected me a lot in my life because I am with my brother all the time at home. What this did was it made me appreciate my good health all the time. I never thought that something like this could have ever happened to someone in my family. I always think what are the chances that someone in my family could get very sick or possibly be in a fatal situation. After this I learned how to be a good supporter if someone were to get ill in my family and to be brave enough to get through it and help whoever it is. Before this I didn't know what to think about it and how to respond to something when it happened. Then I was a little bit more confident if something would happen again. But then a year later my brother got sick again and had to go back to the hospital for a few days. I then knew how I could help encourage him that he was going to be alright. Sure enough in a few days he was on his way to getting better. I think that I can relate to Bilbo in his situation. Before his adventure he was a very plain and quiet, and now he is an adventurer and is almost fearless. I feel like before this I was quite afraid of what was going to happen and how we were going to get through, and recover from this. But now I feel like I can go through anything and turn out fine. If someone in family gets sick and has to go to a hospital, I know exactly what to do now. ~ This is a good reflection and connection to our book. Always remember how many people are praying for you all. ~ Mrs. Best
1. One conflict in The Hobbit is the conflict between Gandalf and the dwarves. The dwarves don't think that Bilbo Baggins was a good choice for their burglar. They think that he is not capable of this duty. He keeps getting separated from them (that is the main thing) and he is barely making it out alive of situations. This helps the story move on because they may be having second thoughts of Bilbo, but I'm sure that they won't be sorry that Gandalf picked him. Please don't use the other font - Impact. I had to change it because I couldn't read it. This was such a good conflict to choose. It is also the first time someone said this! LOVE IT! What you are missing is an example, with textual support, of a time they were questioning including Bilbo. That would have made this really great. ~ Mrs. Best

Nice Job Jack! I agree with you that the dwarfs won't be sorry that Gandalf picked Bilbo. That was a good conflict in the story. I like that conflict because it set plot for the story. The conflict that I used was in chapter 6 when the dwarfs got trapped in the trees and got surrounded by wolves. Then a while later a bunch of eagles came a saved the dwarfs from the wolves and it turned out that Gandalf was friends with the lord of the eagles. ? You are missing the next response. 0/5. If you were absent, you can get it in. Tell me about this. ~Mrs. Best
